This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

To My Sons Harold Bell Wright Books

This final work of Harold Bell Wright gives a glimpse of the author's origans and experience.
Was particularly important to me because it verified the stories I had heard growing up in Lowellville, Ohio.
Wright spent an important period of time there and from the banks of the Mahoning River, he embarked on a great adventure that would eventually spawn his litterary carrear.

To My Sons Harold Bell Wright Books Reviews

The information in the book is very interesting, assuming you have an interest in Harold Bell Wright, as I do. BUT the edition is very strange. There is absolutely no indication of who the publisher is. On the end page it says it was printed in the USA...that's all. I have to wonder if the Wright family knows about this as they DO protect their copyright AND this book is not yet in the public domain. It seems for all the world like some kind of pirated knock off of a book which is otherwise fairly rare. True first editions, if you can find one, sell for around $1,000.00. Or you can purchase a modern reproduction by The Yestermorrow Press % the Barbara Berry Bookshop for about $165.00, new. This modern, limited edition was authorized by the Wright family. Another concern I have with this edition is the quality of the type is compromised, like it was printed from old, shabby plates. It's good to have it available for only $40.00 but is sure seems "fishy" to me.
I loved "To My Sons." I am amused by HBW telling us you cannot believe anything you read about him, even if he wrote it himself. I like the bit about his fellow clergy did not have much use for him but, truth be told, he didn't have much use for them either. Funny and interesting for Harold Bell Wright fans. I did not purchase this version. I requested an original copy of the book through the statewide Inter-Library Loan program at my local library.

I have previously informed the family of HBW that people were published apparent bootleg copies of To My Sons. It somehow got out of copyright so these are technically legal publishings. Not very elegant or nice ones, though.
"To My Sons" is an autobiography of Harold Bell Wright written at the age of 61 for his sons and describing the seminal events of his first 30 years. So, why should we care? Because Harold Bell Wright, although little known now, was America's most favorite author of the first third of the twentieth century. His books set sales records, were turned into popular movies, were found in more homes than any other book except the bible. And yet, he was the most ridiculed man of letters ever. His life began in abject poverty, a childhood so destitute that it adversely affected his health for his entire life. His mother died when he was a boy, his father was a neglecting alcoholic bum, and yet Harold Bell, surviving on his own from his young teenage years, became an entrenpreneur, a minister proclaiming non-denominatonal Christianity, and finally -- having to leave the ministry due to poor health, his books became his pulpit. His struggles are outlined in this book along with the events and individuals who helped create his philosophy and tenacity for life. His is an inspiring story of courage and hope, and it is written beautifully, almost ashamedly so. Although the last quarter of the book deals with Wright's utopian idealism in which he forsees royalty of privelage changing to royalty of service and churches turning away from individual creeds and dogma to sacraficing for the masses, the book still deserves five stars based on the strength of the bulk of the material. Now I better understand and appreciate Wright's novels. All of Wright's books are difficult to find, but this one especially is well worth the search.
Great book from a great seller also.
We enjoyed the book. Easy and entertaining reading. Arrived promptly in good condition.
